Sound advice, Brighten. If one is trying to teach oneself to like something
one otherwise doesn't. that is. I suppose I could learn to survive on an
endless diet of brussels sprouts if I forced myself to.
The point is, here on the "D"ixieland "J"azz "M"ailing "L"ist, most of us
have fairly well formed ideas of what is musical to us and what is not. If
I may abandon my normally PC personality for a moment, the old saying is,
"Life's too short to spend it with an ugly woman." I'd like to paraphrase
that to say, "Life's too short to force myself to enjoy Miles, Bird, and all
the rest of those atonal, play the scales up and down 'musicians' that I
don't care a rat's ass for."
