I have always loved the singing of Lee Wiley from her early days with Victor
Young's Orch. at age 16 on to her late recordings. My idea of a singer who
phrased beautifully but didn't distort what the composer wrote.
I recently burned a CD of my favorite lady singers from my old Lap's.
Included were Peggy Lee, Wiley, Helen Hume, Martha Davis, and the early Lady
Day sides when she swung so wonderfully...:Ohh,Ooh, Ooh..What A Little
Moonlight can Do ooh ooh," and "Miss Brown to You."
I stuck a couple Helen Forrest sides on, and make no apologies. I also added
the young (16 years old) Kay Starr with Barnett. Obviously there are a few
Ella sides on the CD, especially her cut of "I'll be Tired of You," by Yip
Harberg. A love song for all us old hubbies to dedicate to their long
suffering musician's wives. The title is not what the song is about.
