The follwing email is from my old friend, Emil Orth, after he received my
post, "Sittin' in with Bob Scobey and Clancy Hayes.

Emil Orth and I were in the Dept. of Pacific Marine Corps Band in 1952-53.
We were stationed at a Navy Base, Treasure Island (TI) off of San Francisco.
Emil is a fine trombonist and both of us then were not long out of high
school. We both loved Dixieland jazz and would go over most weekends to
Oakland where Bob Scobey and Clancy Hayes were ensconced at Vic's and
Roxie's. Scobey's trombonist, Jack Buck was playing piano and so Scobey had
no trombone. Scobey started letting us sit in and so we would take turns.
Besides the great fun and excitement of this we both learned a great deal.

Emil Orth today still plays great trombone and is active with the Beale St.
Jazz band in Memphis.
