Correct, he would have been too young. But then, there are some opinions out
there that some brothels did have small dance bands in addition to piano
players. Whether they are correct or not is beyond me. The obit says: "He
played at the fabled Basin Street brothel Mahogany Hall."  Like you, I doubt
that.
