It probably depends on your e-mail handler. I use msn hotmail and it is 
quite easy to do this. At the head of the list of postings (which includes 
the names of the posters and the subjects) is a box which, if you check, 
selects every post. One can then skim the names and subjects and 
individually de-select the ones you wish to keep. Then hit the delete key 
and everything goes in the trash box except those which you saved out.

But, as I say, I'm only familiar with hotmail when it comes to the bulk of 
my e-mail.
