* PABLO ABLANEDO OCTET, Jazz Gallery, 290 Hudson Street, at Spring
Street, South Village, (212) 242-1063. Last year, Mr. Ablanedo, the
Argentine pianist and composer, released an interesting album, "From
Down There" (Fresh Sound), combining Argentine folk forms, classical
music and orchestrated jazz. It's very worked-out music; he's using some
of the best young players in New York, including the trumpeter Avishai
Cohen, the guitarist Ben Monder and the violinist Jenny Scheinman, and
it's more evidence that jazz composers are going in any direction they
want these days. Sunday night at 9
and 10:30; admission is $12
