One of us first thought of this list while on her hands and knees trying to piece together soggy shreds of a mystery she had almost finished when one of the dogs ate the last five pages. Not only did she not know anyone to call to find out the ending, she also realized many of her friends would not understand or sympathize with her situation, especially since the book was in a bookcase when selected by the dog. Therefore, The Literate Canine is a mailing list for people who own at least one dog of any (or mixed) breed and who read books. (Audio books are acceptable.) Discussion is by no means limited to dog books. Any writing, from Crime and Punishment to Black Beauty, can be discussed. If you have never heard of those two books, this may not be the list for you. We envision a small list. Lurking is discouraged; lively discussion of books and the ideas they engender, is encouraged. While we hope to have open and free wheeling discussions, personal insults are neither expected nor tolerated and current political views are for another venue. We expect the same level of civilization on the list we would expect to find in our living rooms after dinner and a few drinks with friends. Subscribing to TLC
Subscribe to TLC by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. Once confirmation is received, your request will be held for approval by the list moderator. You will be notified of the moderator's decision by email.
