<div dir="ltr"><div>Just back from the Chicago Stompers from Milan, Italy, show.</div><div>Tonight two friends - the trumpeter Eli Preminger and the trombonist Amnon Ben'Artzi - and I went to hear the Chicago Stompers who are touring Israel as part of the Hot Jazz series. A very entertaining and hot sextet, with lots of verve. Perhaps the entertainment portion was a bit overdone. But they all -
Mauro L. Porro (trumpet, curved soprano, vcl),
Lorenzo Baldasso (clt, alt),
Giorgio Gallina (tbn),
Dario Lavizzari (bjo, gtr),
Paolo A. Vanzulli (sousaphone) and Fabrizio
Carriero (dms) - are excellent musicians. And rather young. They wore "period" uniforms (tuxedos and bow ties), sported "period" hair style and looked great.</div><div>The programme was mostly standards (Panama, After You've Gone, Milenberg Joys, etc)., but also the not overplayed "Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas," "Our Bungalow Dreams" (recorded by Bix; it must have been the first time I've heard it live) and "The Hurricane" (dedicated to ex wives) of Red Nichols fame.</div><div>Why was "Milenberg Joys" devoted to Leon Rappollo I don't know, but it's nice to have that wonderful and short-lived lived artist mentioned.</div><div>The arrangements (by Mr. Porro) were very good, giving even warhorses a fresh touch.</div><div>We had great time!<br></div><div><br>
