<div dir="auto">It was Fred on the trombone solo. The "popping" low registered thing is a give-away. Yes, I thought also it might be a "set solo" that he had developed. It happens, although, I think it is more exciting for the player if you try not to do that. Of course, you can't crash if you don't try to fly, so maybe on a recording he might have taken the less risky route. Anyway, it's a great solo! <br><br></div>

I normally just enjoy the music or not. However, for once I am curious about a recording I heard today when I asked my “Alexa” to play music by the Dukes of Dixieland. Horrors, some of you will be saying! “You have an Alexa?”, or even “you would ASK to listen to the Dukes?” Hee, hee. Yes, is the answer to both questions!.. Anyway, the magic box played a great version of the Washington and Lee Swing. Now, I’m not always a great fan of all the so-called Dixieland marches, this version stood out as being very exciting, not to mention, very fast, and very well played by everyone.

Does anyone know who played clarinet on that recording? It is a long solo, with a stop chorus of clarinet only in the middle. Excellent, and a top note that is clear & big, and very much in tune.

The cover is in black with only drawings on it, and says 1958 on it. There is another recording of the same song on the Audio Fidelity LP1823 on YouTube, also, which seems to be the same band, and the trombone solo is very alike if not the even same, but the clarinet solo is shorter, without the stop bit. Strange!
