I was concerned to identify the name as written or printed, and identify the man. </div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1527800314220_9355" dir="ltr">I relied on another printed source for my idea of the pronunciation. </div><div id="yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1527800314220_9355" dir="ltr">It hardly belittles the guy that he was replaced by Earle Warren in the Basie band. When the altoist Preston Love was interviewed -- he took on Earle Warren's chair when Earle was drafted -- he expressed shock that anyone would think he'd not vacate the chair for Earle's return. A very considerable musician, Earle Warren, and like his colleague Jack Washington he was praised to the skies by colleagues, and claims were made on behalf of both that they would have been better celebrated had Basie not oriented his band around the two tenors of Lester Young and Herschel Evans. During the few years Benny Waters was at his blazing best ("have you heard how much he plays?" Ram Ramirez asked, after they were both on a Harlem Jazz and Blues band recording) Earle Warren was one of only two musicians I heard match him with fire on the stand.
