<div dir="ltr"><div>Stan Greig, in addition to playing drums for Humph, was an excellent pianist, probably better than a drummer (I didn't know he was a piano tuner as well). <p>I have fond memories of the Bull's Head - it was there that the
band I was with for 23 years, the Zenith Hot Stompers, had two
recording sessions with the great Wally Fawkes (whose 93rd
birthday was recently hailed on this list) as our guest, in 1992.
The reason for having two sessions, 13 days apart, was that our
tuba player doubled on bass guitar, an instrument which Bob Erdos
of Stomp Off Records abhorred, so we recorded eight tunes using
tuba and eight using a dep string bass player.</p>
<p>Incidentally, the piano was tuned for one of the sessions by <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/2012/nov/23/stan-greig" target="_blank">Stan
Greig</a>, who had played drums with Humph's band, and who
appeared in the film recently discussed on this list: "It's Trad,
Dad!".</p>

That dream team is with Humph and with the (small 'a', not a hostelry) angels
including John Dankworth, also mentioned, and I fear most of the "/Boland Big Band"
mentioned as a group, are now and forever
rocking their and other souls in the bosom of Abraham
(no closing time but one gathers there have been admission problems
(considerable delays were mentioned by Signor Alighieri,
though I gather he had settled on permanent residence before his report was printed.).
As for Humph's band:
Tony Fisher has the trumpet duties once Humph's and is billed as having
worked with the men listed.
At least the living band will be there on July 18th., rather far for me to travel.
IT IS SOME TIME SINCE I HEARD ANY REPORT OF THEM,
and I hope our friend had half as much fun at the Bull's Head as I did pulling his leg here!
