The Grim Reaper has been into the British jazz fold again recently: I heard today of the recent passing of the marvelous English clarinettist Dave Shepherd. Here's a link to his obit in the Guardian:<br>

Dave was not just an immaculate player, he was also an immaculate dresser and an all-round good guy who kept the highest of musical company and never had a bad word to say about anyone. His style was strongly based on Benny Goodman's playing, so he was at home playing Dixieland or Mainstream jazz, and he was so good that a frequent collaborator, no less than pianist Teddy Wilson, said of him that "it was just like playing with Benny, but without all the BS!"<br>

Another good one gone,<br>
