Some years ago, I discovered a cache of Stomp Off LPs from the 80s in the<br>
library of my alma mater, Brandeis University. Over the next few years, I<br>
stopped off at the library every other week or so on my way to work and,<br>
using my alumnus privileges, checked out a few records and digitized them<br>
at home.<br>
<br>
Now I have all this music on CD. Rather than have it languish in my<br>
collection as it's languishing in Brandeis's, I'm making it available to<br>
anyone who wants it. I've talked to some of the musicians involved and<br>
they don't seem to mind. In order to avoid possible legal repercussions,<br>
I'm not charging anything, and I won't offer any recordings that, as far as<br>
I can tell, are available on CD--so, no Black Eagles, no Marty Grosz, no<br>
Grand Dominion. You can get their music through their websites.<br>

And if any musician does object, I'll remove that name from the list.<br>
<br>
But the vast majority of this stuff, as far as I can tell, is out of print<br>
and SO has no plans to reissue it (as I was told after inquiring about my<br>
favorite group, the Hall Bros. Jazz Band). Many of the bands are defunct,<br>
e.g. a wonderful ensemble out of San Francisco called the Crysanthemum<br>
Ragtime Band. There are lots of international bands in the collection, as<br>
well as solo pianists and small groups--just a wealth of material by a lot<br>
of talented people.<br>

I've made an Excel spreadsheet of the collection (not hard to do once you<br>
get it onto iTunes) and will send it to anyone who wants it, if it doesn't<br>
attach here. Just write to me at amoore58@gmail.com. It's currently<br>
sorted by artist but you can sort it by album or song title, too. So if<br>
you're looking for a nice rendition of "Sweet Mumtaz," well, there are four<br>
of them here. Let me know, and I'll send you an mp3. If you want a whole<br>
album, I will ask for a couple of bucks for postage.<br>

I really hope somebody takes me up on this. This music is too good to let<br>
die.<br>
