Marek, Are you getting your own posts now?

In the early 60s I was working 6 and 7-nights a week and sometimes even
cocktail hours and some lunch time music. Every time I’d take a break,
“Strangers On The Shore” would come on the juke box. I learned to hate that
song.

Then sometime in the late 890s or early 90s, I met Aker at a Jazz festival
in Los Angeles. We had a great time swapping lies at the bar.

I heard him play “Strangers On The Shore,” as Marek says, withouot strings.
He played it beautifully. I gained a new appreciation for the song.

Strange.

I thought I was getting DJML emails, as some of Ross' and others came
through, but I did not receive this one. And I have not been receiving my
own posts in my mailbox since times immemorial (my age, that means "recent" - I
remember things from long ago).

Somehow, those waistcoats bring to mind "Stranger on the Shore." I
didn't like the popular version (in later years, Bilk continued to play it, and
it sounded great with no strings attached!)

Cheers

go to Dave for sorting out the list for us! I first noticed a
problem
on 5 March when I a post sent to djml (that I have attached below)
didn't
pop up in my own inbox as it should. I looked at the djml archives
&
saw it was there, though. Then, over the next few days there
were no other
posts from djml, nor were there any in the archives.
That's when I alerted
Bob Ringwald asking if there was a
problem.

Our list may not be as active as it was a few years ago, but
then we often
had some contentious arguments going on then that added to
the quantity but
not the quality of the posts on the list. It's a great
list, and many thanks
to those that keep it running for us!

I have
noticed that my djml posts no longer go into my djml box, but remain
in my
general inbox. That must be due to whatever was done at HQ! I
will
make a new ruling for that. Also, I noticed we had a few posts
come through
in HTML, not plain text. Is that something new for the
list?

Anyway, for those that didn't have a look at a recent video of
our band here
in Madrid last week, the link is below. I love it
mainly because of the
interreaction between the pianist & trumpeter,
which is all about playing
Jazz. It gets a tad bit modern, but that's
ok, too. We can still honk in
the classic style,
also.

Jim

________________________________

From: Jim

Ernst & Young
took us up to Barcelona for a company gig, and last night
we played for an
Orthodontist Convention in Madrid.

Have a look at a
video I shot while the band was playing a rather modern
version of
"Caravan". The trumpeter is a young Russian who often
substitutes for
our regular trumpeter. Here he has a bit of a "talk" with
the pianist
at the end of his solo which (you can see in the video) he
enjoyed
greatly. It's really fun when those sort of moments happen in
a
band.

I was taking the video, so all you can see of me is my horn
on the stand &
mutes on the floor! We're dressed in our
"function" clothes, which I guess
in the U.S. would be frowned on as being
corny. In Spain, we always get
compliments about the colorful vests
(which were a gift from J & B Whiskey),
as there are no misunderstood
undercurrents here about such
dress....fortunately.

The video:
<A
