Cornetist Bix Beiderbecke was born 100 years ago this month on March 10, 1903. His brilliant musical career lasted for only about seven years, and he died of pneumonia at age 28. As a star soloist with the Wolverines, and the orchestras of Jean Goldkette and Paul Whiteman, he helped define hot jazz in the 1920s. There will be a special musical tribute to jazz pioneer Bix Biederbeck at the Storyteller Cafe on Monday, March 10. It will feature Gary Church playing with the 52nd Street Revival Jazz Band (the band that played at the ACJS December meeting). 7:00......beginning Lindy Hop lessons 8:00......jazz/dancing begins with the Joe Hopkins Quartet (Gary Church on piano, Danny Shannon on Bass and Bob Beck on drums/vocals) 9:00......a special set dedicated to the wonderful music of Bix Biederbeck...featuring Gary Church on Cornet with the 52nd St revival band. 10:30.....jazz until midnight with a plethora of musicians sitting in.
