[Dixielandjazz] AH Proof Mailing List

I'm on way too many mailing lists. I stay on them for that
once-in-a-while gig. A couple of them bug the hell out of me because
people are often attaching audio and video files that are useless and
take up a lot of space.

I hope to finish a program soon that serves as an email filter. When an
email arrives at a list, the program analyses the email. It could, at
this point, have a black-list/white-list filtering set up. No problem.

The program detects if there is an attachment exceeding a pre-defined
limit. If so, it strips the attachment out and stores it on the server
of the mailing list (other storage options can be looked at later). A
link to the media file will be added to the message. The link will
indicate the name of the attachment, its type, its size, and whatever
else. I guess I can have the attachment virus-scanned before storing
too. Compressed as well, if desired. I'm not a fan of the later for
quality reasons.

All messages will be archived. Later, there will be a sort of browser to
look/search through past messages and sent attachments.

Anyway, I'd like to try to make some money with this. May I propose a
parallel list for you to subscribe to, to exchange the same ideas as we
do here, but I want you to be the worst of list mates. Send that 25
minute clip of Bechet playing Hendrix. I want to try to make an asshole
proof mailing list manager.

I doubt that I will be online before the end of the year. How 'bout it?
Up to being my guinea pigs?

All the best, Gary
