I wonder how many folks still subscribe to our old favorite Jazz Mailing
List? I cant believe islandnet still support it! Nevertheless, Jazz is
still alive in Madrid where I have been performing since 1966. Our band,
Canal Street Jazz Band, is now celebrating its 57th yr performing, and
although the gigs began to lessen with the financial crisis in 2008, and
even more after Covid, we still get one to 2 gigs a month. Weve maybe
fallen into the dreaded too respected to even possibly book arena, even
though we are very adaptable to costs & situations! I even was presented as
a legend of Spanish Jazz during a concert when I substituted a trombonist
at a gig with visiting New Orleans drummer Joe Lastie. Im only a legend
because Im 83, and been at it for a long time! :>
Anyway, the reason for sending this post was to give anyone that might be
interested the chance to see a concert we did in Madrid in early October.
The sound guy took about ½ the concert to get his act together, and
actually, the crowd (non Jazz folk) were the same. I feel, also, that the
band was being careful up to past the ½ way mark, only really playing Hot
Jazz after that! Still, its a nicely put together set, although, I somehow
chose tunes were the bass & drums are not well shown off.

If you have less time for us, just go to maybe the 30 min mark. Either way,
please watch on something better than your telephone!!!
Cheers, Jim Kashishian
