Subject: FW: Upcoming Zoom Jazz Talks
HI jazz camper…. Like me, you’re probably counting the hours to class,
jams, second line, P Hall and more such as the dinner you promised to buy
me. But first, I wanted to share with you a couple of jazz events produced
our jazz club.
We hope you’ll not only tune in but also help us spread the word among your
pals, bandmates, neighbors about a couple of our talks about jazz – free
as always on zoom (donations, ahem, happily accepted). In the way of
background, Potomac River Jazz Club (PRJC, in the Washington, DC area)
began the series of talks during the pandemic as a way to bring jazz topics
to our members while they were homebound forced to watch reruns of Maury
Povich and Jerry Springer.
They are produced by Elie Cossa, a jazz camp alumnus.
While Maury is still going, I’ve been told, turns out the talks have
outlasted Jerry, may he rest in TV peace.
Both of the next two presenters are considered deep experts in their fields
of interest. Please let me know if you have any questions. BTW, if you
want to recommend a speaker for a future talk, please do tell and I will
pass it along to Elie.
Best wishes, and just where are we having dinner????

Jazz Talk Deets:
The first takes place Monday June 24 at 7:00 – 8:00 PM EASTERN time and
features the curator of the New Orleans Jazz Museum David Kunian. David is
in a perfect position to understand the unique aspects of history, geography
and culture that brought jazz to life in the Crescent City. David has
produced radio broadcasts for 30 years, has had a weekly radio show on WWOZ
since 1993, and produced numerous documentaries about New Orleans artists.
The Zoom is FREE, although we accept donations at the time of registration
to offset the cost of the program.
You must pre-register no later than 5pm EASTERN TIME the day of the program
to receive the link by email to join us! Register now - the link will be
sent to you shortly before the Zoom begins.

Then, just when you thought you knew everything about the illustrious
history of Louis Armstrong, here comes Ricky Riccardi, the preeminent
biographer of Louis, to tell you there’s more. Ricky is a Grammy-winning
author and serves as the Director of Research Collections at the Louis
Armstrong Museum in Queens. Title of the free (did we say donations are
welcome?) Zoom talk is Pops Is Tops (of course) – it takes place on Monday,
JULY 22 at 7 – 8:00 PM EASTERN time.
As with all the jazz talks, you have to preregister by 5pm EASTERN TIME the
night of the talk and a link to the Zoom will be sent to you shortly before
it begins.
