--For well re-imagined early jazz, anywhere that Tuba Fats is playing.
--See who's at Snug Harbor on Frenchman Street.
--Usually, good jazz at Palm Court Cafe on Decatur.
--Maple Leaf Bar, Oak Street, uptown—drummer Johnny Vidacovich Trio, Thursday nights—be prepared
to be surprised by bold modern improvisation with true N.O. feel. Dress code: funky, or whatever
--Preservation Hall—go to sneer, stay to hear good D*******d Jazz. (If you'e lucky.)
Seek out: Leroy Jones, Trumpet; Duke Heitger, trumpet; lots of other players and venues that I've shamefully omitted.
With the French Quarter Festival, you'll have plaenty of choices.
