All of this points to the progressive element in the D of D’s evolution.
I wouldn’t characterize them as a "New Orleans "Dixieland-style revival band”, but as a NOLA “continuation band”.
Like Matty Matlock, they deeply understood the traditional jazz repertoire and offered fresh interpretations which set them apart from other groups of the time - mid 50s to mid 60s, when trombonist Fred Assunto became ill and died.
