I can recommend for music along the lines which appeal hereabouts the Gospel Trombone music on
https://www.amazon.com/Saints-Paradise-Trombone-Shout-Bands/dp/B00000JKGN
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Saints-Paradise-Trombone-United-Prayer/dp/B00000JKGN
These bands come from an area where Higgy grew up, who sent me a very nice card when I sent him a fan letter a very long time ago. "Roll along, prairie moon!"
Ray Bryant rather than being so much of a Blues player as has usually been remarked, seemed to me to come straight out of church. I remember him in Edinburgh when Harrysweets Edison followed up Al Grey and Buddy Tate with his quartet feature on Jobim's "Wave" -- Ray with lack of notice almost being caught short and having been thrown in, as finding chords no bother, but decidedly Baptist Chords, diving in at the "Deep River" end. Brasilian Baptist, a new denomination, and in the home city of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland!

Obviously there are a lot of trad standards that are considered gospel
tunes but I'm looking for examples of 20-30's era crossover that leans
heavier on the gospel side of things. Not necessarily trad that was super
religious, but trad that stylistically leans towards gospel but still
contains the instrumentation, context and influence of trad. Hopefully
ya'll know what I'm getting at.
Looking forward to hearing back and I hope everyone is staying safe and
well!
thanks,
Madison
btw please reply all, I included my friend, who I would like to be part of

Dear Madison,
Perhaps you can give us some examples of what you are looking for, as a guide.

If you need 144 rolls of toilet paper for a 14 day quarantine, you probably should have been seeing a doctor long before covid-19.

Eddy Davis, the man behind the Woody Allen band, has joined the ranks of
the deceased. That band was a great ambassador of OKOM, even if hardly the
greatest band around (but listen to its Bunk Project).
Sad, sad, sad,
Marek
