[Dixielandjazz] Dixielandjazz Digest, Vol 197, Issue 20

Two Melbourne recordings of Sweet Patootie were done during the trad
revival in the early 1960s. Frank Johnson's Fabulous Dixielanders made a
recording which was getting airplay on ABC Radio. When station authority
learnt what the double entendre words meant, it was banned immediately.
Astute band leader, Frank Traynor then made a recording by his Jazz
Preachers with acceptable words. This single backed by "Ice Cream" became
number one on the hit parade in 1962, the only trad jazz single to do so.
Frank Traynor had some legendary local jazz musicians in that version of
his band. It is a simple blues in Ab.
