There are many different books covering different aspects of Australian
jazz that been published. Even some revealing that there was no void
surrounding Graeme Bell. However it seems that jazz followers today are
averse to buying books on the subject. Many are also averse to buying
CDs when music can be downloaded for free from the internet.

A cheap and easy way to gain some knowledge of Australian jazz is to
visit the websites of the Australian Jazz Museum and the South
Australian Jazz Aechive. Between them, these two institutes, run by
volunteers, have issued around 60 CDs of Australian jazz, from 1940 on.
Shortly the AJM will issue a double CD covering the thirties, which
includes hot jazz as well as swing music. These CDs are kept in
catalogue - never discontinued.

The quarterly journals of the AJM and the SAJA are packed with
historical material.

There are also numerous Facebook sites concerning Australian jazz.

Best wishes

Jack Mitchell
