It's sad sad to realise that Australian jazz history is unknown to jazz 
fans elsewhere. Graeme Bell had regular gigs in the early forties and 
others were following. The Port Jackson Jazz Band formed in Sydney in 
1944, the Southern Jazz Group in Adelaide in 1945 and there were many 
other groups around in the same period.

Harry Harman formed the Paramount JB in 1953 (from earlier transient 
bands) not 1948.

And the Sydney Jazz Club was roaring along before TRAD was ever heard of.
