Chicago - 3 May 1955

Frank Assunto (tp), Fred Assunto (tb), Pete Fountain (cl), Arthur Seelig (p), Bill Porter (b), Roger Johnson (d).

Blue Prelude is on an LP called "At the jazz band ball" and issued on Vik LXA0025 and RCA-Victor LPM2097, LPM 2982 (mono) and LSP2982 (stereo).

About two years ago I tried to compile a discography of the band (the Assunto years) but it appeared to be impossible to get exact recording dates, so I didn’t finish it.

Very interesting comments back & forth here on the Dukes. As a kid, though, I didn't think to deeply about what I was hearing. I just skipped over the songs that I didn't like (and it turns out they were the corny ones).

To this day I still play Blue Prelude regularly keeping it fairly close to the way I remember Frank played it on a recording that I don't have any longer. Must have been a recording done before they hit fame. I seem to remember that it wasn't a full size LP. Anyone know what recording it was? Trombone solo with rhythm section only. One of my favourite songs. I recently discovered the words, which are amazing!
