What is harder and harder to find unless you know someone who knows some hole-in-the-wall where there might be a band you would care to hear? Jazz. This town allows to decay, or actively destroys, everything it can which makes it different from any other medium sized city in the USA.

Sad and true, Phil. My love-hate relationship with the City Formerly Known as New Orleans prompted these haiku--

Can hardly drive ten
blocks without saying, Yeah, I
played a gig there once.

New Orleans: theme park
with echos and aromas
of what used to be.

When you label and
enshrine the funky Ward Nine
it ain’t quaint no more.

New Orleans, you have
slapped cheap labels on your past and
shouted, Authentic!

No, citoyens, you
cannot coax a true past from
a plastic present.

Give New Orleans some
credit: It’s authentically
self-imitating.

City of my birth,
am I utterly loyal,
or just addicted?
