If I did the math correctly, that makes it 5:PM on the East Coast of the USA, for Daylight Savings Time.

Press Release –John Petters Swing Band Reunion @ Old Harlow
The ARC, St John’s Arts Centre, St John’s Walk, Market St, Old Harlow CM17 0AJ
Saturday 24th March @ 3pm
Admission £10
Details: 01406 365 731 e-mail <mailto:tessa at traditional-jazz.com> tessa at traditional-jazz.com

The exciting music of Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa will ring out at the ARC (St John’s Arts Centre, St John’s Walk, Market St, Old Harlow CM17 0AJ) on Saturday (24th March) at 3pm when The John Petters Swing Band takes to the stage.

This special concert sees the return of continual world traveller, clarinettist / saxophonist, Pete Neighbour, and fellow reedman Julian Stringle. Ex Alex Welsh Jazz Band guitarist, Jim Douglas, pianist Tim Huskisson and Harlow bassist, Keith Donald complete the line-up.

Pete Neighbour now based in the USA, who spends the year playing back to back cruises, is making his annual visit to Blighty, to the delight of his many UK fans.

Speaking of Julian Stringle, Sir John Dankworth said, “Julian is an immense talent! Probably the best clarinettist to emerge in British jazz for several decades. His playing has ‘world class’ written all over it.”
Julian and Pete were original members of the John Petters Swing Band in 1983, when the ex-Harlow drummer, smitten by swing music, set out to recapture, successfully, the sounds of the 30s.

Kevin Henriques, writing in the Financial Times in those days said, “Petters is an unashamed disciple of the Jazz of Benny Goodman & Gene Krupa ......he sets the mood for this neat swinging group."

The band played at various venues in Harlow, including the Playhouse and the sadly defunct Square. Recent reunions at The ARC have been enthusiastically received.

Saturday’s concert promises such exuberant up tempo tunes as ‘Avalon’, ‘China Boy’, ‘Christopher Columbus’ and ‘Stealin’ Apples’ as well as danceable ballads such as ‘Moonglow’ and ‘Memories of You’.

Dance or listen, this is going to be an afternoon of music not to be missed.

Admission £10 and the show starts at 3pm. Tel: 01406 365 731
