Hot traditional jazz from the 20s to the early 40s will be presented at The
ARC, (St John’s Arts & Recreation Centre, St John’s Walk, Market St, Old
Harlow CM17 0AJ), on Saturday 30th June at 3pm.
Making his debut appearance at the venue will be young multi
instrumentalist, Ewan Bleach, who is carving out a considerable reputation
on the international jazz scene.
Ewan is a specialist in early jazz styles and has a wide and diverse
repertoire. He is particularly interested in exploring rare old songs, from
such artistes as Billie Holiday, Al Bowlly, Bessie Smith and Jimmie
Rodgers, from the rough raggy blues songs of the twenties to the rich
luscious ballads of the early 40s.
A true beacon, lighting the way to the future of hot jazz, Ewan is a prime
mover on the new London Jazz scene, where young musicians are
re-establishing a jazz scene which has been decimated in recent years.
He regularly visits New Orleans to soak up the atmosphere of the Crescent
city and to draw inspiration. He has toured with the cities’ premier
traditional jazz band, Tuba Skinny, and appears at festivals all over
Europe.
This concert will be a rare treat and a peep into the future of this music.
Piano professor, Martin Litton, himself an acknowledged expert in early
piano styles, bassist, Keith Donald and John Petters drums will complete
the line-up.
Don’t miss this one.
The session starts at 3pm and admission is £10.
