I was under the impression that Benny Goodman's Carnegie Hall performace was
in 1938 and not 1935.

This is 80th anniversary of the Jan. 16, 1935 Benny Goodman jazz concert at
Carnegie Hall.  Here's a piece and some reflections on my experience in 1988
at the 50th anniversary concert led by clarinetist Bob Wilbur.  Likely
you've heard/read some of these.  If so then share with me some of your own
reflections.

 

The attachment at the bottom has about a 6 minute recap and some music to go
along with it.

 

Thanks to those who wrote me about your suggestions for jazz films for our
library series this summer.  I'll collate those and send out soon, I hope.
You sent some suggestions of films unfamiliar to me. I'll check these out.
It was a good exercise for the brain.  Perhaps my collated list will give
you some ideas for programs or your own visual/auditory enjoyment.
