Hot traditional jazz from the mid 40s will be presented at The ARC, (St
John’s Arts & Recreation Centre, St John’s Walk, Market St, Old Harlow
CM17 0AJ), on Saturday 24th February at 3pm.

‘Wild Bill and Bechet’ celebrates an explosive series of recordings for the
Blue Note label, which put together the Chicago styled hot cornetist, Wild
Bill Davison (1906 – 1989), with New Orleans soprano saxophone virtuoso,
Sidney Bechet (1897 – 1959). Arranged by blues pianist, Art Hodes, (1904 –
1993), these records caused a sensation when first released and inspired
many of the pioneer, British musicians of the Trad Jazz boom in the 1950s.

Featuring two young musicians, soaked in the style, conetist, Allen Beechey
and clarinet / saxophonist, Duncan Batchelor, this show will include such
jazz classics as, “Tiger Rag”, “At The Jazz Band Ball”, “Tin Roof Blues”
and “Runnin’ Wild”.

Although Messrs Batchelor and Beechey were too young to have experienced
Wild Bill Davison live, the rhythm section recorded with him in the ‘80s.
Pianist, Martin Litton made an album at Soho’s Pizza Express in 1986,
whilst John Petters organised a tour - the Legends of American Dixieland,
with octogenarians, Davison and Art Hodes, which included Harlow bassist
Keith Donald) and played a sell-out concert at The Playhouse Theatre,
Harlow in May 1989,

The album “Together Again” was recorded with the Legends in 1988..

The session starts at 3pm and admission is £10.
