I'm afraid this is relevant only to people not far from there...But if you
are, it seems worthwhile.

American bandleader and composer, Duke Ellington led a highly creative and
successful Big Band from the 1920s until his death in 1974. On occasion, he
would step out from the large ensemble to play some intimate and exciting
small group jazz. In 1959, with his star alto saxophonist, Johnny Hodges,
he made two best selling jazz albums, with ex Count Basie drummer, Jo Jones
and trumpeters, Harry Edison and Roy Eldridge. The Albums were called,
“Back to Back” and “Side By Side”.
One of Britain’s premier reedmen, John Wurr has put together an exciting
presentation drawing inspiration from these two albums and will be joined
by Gary Wood, trumpet, Tim Huskisson, piano, Jim Douglas, guitar, Keith
Donald, bass and John Petters, drums for what promises to be a remarkable
afternoon of swinging jazz at The ARC, (St John’s Arts & Recreation
Centre, St John’s Walk, Market St, Old Harlow CM17 0AJ), on Saturday 28th
April at 3pm.
Drawing on a repertoire of mainly classic blues by W C Handy, Spencer
Williams and a number of Ellington originals, such as Royal Garden Blues,
St Louis Blues, Basin St Blues and Stompy Jones, this concert guarantees to
delight.
The session starts at 3pm and admission is £10.
