We've had the good luck to once again start to book concerts around Spain
lately. When the financial crunch arrived in 2008 most of the "City Halls"
in towns all over the country stopped booking cultural events. They are
just barely beginning again to book artists, and we were fortunate to play a
small town 1.5 hours outside of Madrid in July. Another is coming up in
November. Meanwhile, we have been subsiding on the few Jazz Clubs still
remaining (at least there are a few!), and weddings & private parties.

I have taken to promoting the band through our FaceBook page (Canal Street
Jazz Band Madrid), and through a "Fans list" on Whatsapp. I understand that
people in the U.S. don't use Whatsapp all that much. Shame, as it is a
perfect vehicle to reach people. No cost. Download the app & anyone on
your cellphone contact list will appear on Whatsapp if they too have
downloaded the app. You create a group and everyone on the list gets any
notification of gigs that you post on it in an instance.at no cost to
anyone. I give interested people at our gigs my phone number & they then
send me a message to join the list.

If anyone is interested in seeing some really good photos of our gig in a
village in Spain (Huete), go to

There is even a lengthy blog about the films used, and a history of our
band, and an even more interesting history of the village.

There are some really great shots in color and black & white of this
beautiful venue, which, by the way, sounded as good as it looks. We had a
great concert, and then were invited by the town to a private home for a
standup dinner/snacks at midnight. Wine & cheeses, olives, cured hams &
sausages, fruit, etc. from that very town & wonderful hospitality!

My son came all the way from his home in Frankfurt to take the pictures as
he had seen pictures of the venue (ruins of an old church) and knew it would
be a great backdrop for his photo hobby. If you are interested in
photography, go to http://www.kashphoto.com directly. Neil has been
experimenting with different films each week for a year now & writing up
interesting thoughts about all the films. Film is bigtime these days in
Germany.
