Jackie Free's Chicagoans with Rico Tomasso, John Crocker, Tim Huskisson,
Murray Salmon & John Petters
Jackie leads this fine ensemble specialising in Jazz ala Eddie Condon. Now
84, Jackie has an incredible pedigree - including playing with Louis
Armstrong, working with Billy Butterfield and recording with Yank Lawson,
Wild Bill Davison and Art Hodes.
This concert has another Louis connection - Rico met the great man when he
was a boy - a meeting which inspired him and led to his recent British Jazz
Award. This will be Rico's first visit to St John's.
Thurs 23rd February - The Original Dixieland Jass Band Centenary
Celebration. 8PM
This will be a very special concert celebrating 100 years since the first
jazz records were made by the ODJB - a white five piece band from New
Orleans. On 31st January 1917 they made a test recording for Columbia
records, which was rejected. A month later they recorded "Livery Stable
Blues" and Dixie Jass Band One-step for Victor, which became a huge hit and
kicked off the jazz age.
Featured in this tribute will be Allen Beechey, cornet, Tim Huskisson,
clarinet, Graham Hughes, trombone, Dave Browning, piano and John Petters,
drums.

New Orleans Spirituals, Hymns and Gospel, with John Petters New Orleans
Allstars (Allen Beechey, Mike Pointon, Duncan Batchelor, Tim Phillips &
Keith Donald) at All Saints Church, Church Lane, Little Munden, nr Ware,

This will be our third visit to this wonderful old church. Admission is £15

I'm sorry to report the passing of two fine British jazz stars - Dave
Shepherd and Rod Mason. Our sincere condolences to their families.
