The link is to an interesting article pertaining to the development of
barbershop harmonies and the significant contribution of southern black
male voices in the late 1800s and early 1900s.  Another aspect of how
ragtime, marches, blues, and hymns and evolved into the ensemble
sound of early jazz.  Worth a read.
