Longtime jazz drummer Hal Smith has appeared in Pensacola from time-to-time
since 1989. We've corresponded since that time and in the interim he's
lived and worked in San Diego, New Orleans, San Antonio and Arkansas. I
recently wrote and asked about his upcoming engagements. He kindly gave me
permission to share with the list. Those of you who are subscribers to
Michael Steinman's Jazz Lives blog have been seeing Hal featured frequently
on that list, too.

So, here goes.

Thanks, Hal, for sharing with us.

I am busy this month, and will be busy next month, then things will slow
down considerably starting in May.

Next gig for me is the Redwood Coast Music Festival in Eureka, CA where I
will play with the Dave Bennett Swing Quintet, Jason Roberts Tribute to Bob
Wills and the Memphis Speed Kings. After that, I go to New Orleans and the
French Quarter Festival (with the FQF All-Stars, and bands led by Tim
Laughlin, Banu Gibson, Duke Heitger and Kris Tokarski), plus one night at
the Palm Court Jazz Cafe' with the Crescent City Joymakers and gigs at the
Bombay Club with Larry Scala and Banu Gibson.

Following the French Quarter Festival, I will fill in for drummer Alex Hall
on a few gigs with the Fat Babies Classic Jazz Band in the Chicago area,
then head back to New Orleans for the Jazz & Heritage Festival and
performances with Chris Clifton's All-Stars, Connie Jones' Crescent City
Jazz Band, Tim Laughlin's All-Stars and Steve Pistorius' Southern
Syncopators in addition to a night at the Bombay Club with guest artist
Jon-Erik Kellso.

I will finish out the month of April at the Capital City Jazz Festival in
Madison, WI leading "Swing Central" with musicians from Chicago, Austin and
Minneapolis: Jon Doyle (clarinet), Dan Walton (piano), Jamey Cummins
(guitar) and Steve Pikal (bass).

During the spring, three recent sessions will be released on CD: a
self-produced disc featuring Andy Schumm (cornet/clarinet); Kris Tokarski
(piano); and me; a SOLO ART CD called "Classic Rags -- New Orleans Style"
with Kris on piano, Cassidy Holden (bass) and me; and the second volume by
the Memphis Speed Kings -- a Rockabilly group led by Dave Bennett (on
piano/vocals) with Gino Meregillano (guitar/vocal); Joe Jazdzewski (bass)
and me.

                                                            --End--
