Hi Robert et al,

The recent clip of Mahalia Jackson and Robert's reminiscences of Gospel 
artists appearing in Glasgow reminded me of one of my favourite quotes 
from the collected works of Whitney Balliet, perhaps the finest 
descriptive writer about jazz. His description of the entry of the 
female chorus in a gospel performance as sounding "like a treeful of 
startled starlings" is just perfect and always makes me smile when I 
hear it happen on record and film.
