[Dixielandjazz] Latin influences on early jazz--reset button (Charles Suhor)

The whole Choro thread has come up a few times before on DJML - Choro
started before the New Orleans Jazz era by maybe 30 years, from very
similar cross-cultural/societal  influences, but in the 1920s it was
changed by the popularity of international records coming to Brazil. Also,
the new popularity of the Saxophone replaced the Ophicleide from previous
decades of Choro performances. (This also happened in Cuba, by the way -
jazzy Choro style bands called Charanga had Ophicleides - they were common
up to the 1930s - the locals called it the "Figle.")

Just a guess on pronouncing Pixinguinha (after a week of playing in Brazil
a decade ago:) Pix-en-heng-ya or pish-in-geen-ya  could be way off,
Brazilian Portuguese is tricky!
