I wonder. According to Feather, Buck Clayton, together with others,
protested the Esquire devoting most of the 1947 Esquire Jazz Book to Condon
and "the Dixieland clique" (a facsimile of the letter, with the signatures,
is printed) . Nevertheless, Condon proved not being vindictive and later
hired Clayton when the latter needed a job. I'm leaving the rest of Jack's
letter as it seems to prove the point.
