Dear Friends,



I’m writing to let you know about a new venture that my wife, vocalist Molly Ryan, is involved in. She’s teamed up with internationally acclaimed jazz trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg to start the New York Hot Jazz Camp (for adults 18 and older). I didn’t have the advantage of a jazz camp experience when I was learning how to play jazz, but wish I had. I was thrown into the brutal, unforgiving waters of the jazz world and nearly drowned. Jazz camp offers aspiring musicians an opportunity to nurture their skills in a healthy, relaxed environment, where they can grow at their own pace, without fear of being judged or ostracized; it’s also an opportunity to connect with others who share their passion for traditional jazz.



The camp dates are set for May 17-22, 2016. It will take place in a beautiful, 100-year-old building in a quaint section of Greenwich Village in Manhattan, which is home to the Greenwich House Music School. Molly and Bria have lined up a superb faculty, comprised of some of the most prominent names on the New York trad jazz scene. I’m extremely honored to be a member of that faculty, alongside Jon-Erik Kellso (trumpet), Vincent Gardiner (trombone), Jesse Gelber (piano), Nick Russo (guitar/banjo), Jared Engel (bass/tuba), Kevin Dorn (drums), and Catherine Russell (vocals). Ken Peplowski (clarinet/sax) and Wycliffe Gordon (trombone) will be guest clinicians.



Molly and Bria have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise capital for the camp. They have four days left to reach their funding goal, and they need your help.
