Just back from a jam session with Bria Skornberg and mainly semi-pro and
even amateur musicians, but also such pros as Yaakov Hoter (guitar) and Eli
Preminger (tpt). Actually, the entire Eli and the Chocolate factory was
there, with a few guitarist, a pianist (electric piano), a clarinetist, two
violinists (one of whom was the excellent Omer Assano), As happens at jam
sessions, people came and went. Toward the end, they were joined by a
flautist and an accordionist (neither my favourite instrument), David
Mencher played the ukulele and sang, Eli sang some numbers, and some people
from the audience joined the singing.
I expected Ms. Skornberg to steal the show, but she didn't, sharing equal
time with the others. Even more beautiful in person than on the computer
screen, she played very well, didn't sing, and behaved as if she belonged
with the gang since times immemorial.
The spirit was congenial, and everybody had a good time despite the
circumstances - they were playing on the street, with cars and buses going
on the nearby main street, and road works going on.
Another nice event organized by David Mencher at the Dancing Camel brewing
pub.
Cheers
