I receive the Dixieland page in Digest form, so I apologize for the delay. Thanks for the words of wisdom re: excuses, the best was about a stolen tank in San Diego, although the bass trombonist who called the leader on the day of the gig wasn't too bad in that she was in emergency undergoing a C-Section. I liked the language differences from Spain and the union requirement that demanded that you be at the gig 15 minutes before the downbeat is something that I, too was brought up on. In recent years when I go to rehearsals I am amazed at the laxity that exists from both leaders and the band. The young can arrive from an hour early to an hour late, with absolutely no explanation, and a cell phone stuck in their face. Oh well, what is that old saying? "the only constant is change."
Thanks
