I don't preach anything, Paul. I do not believe that "not jazz" means
"bad." It's not the same thing. I do not begtudge Steve, or anybody else,
thier Mileses, Hubbards or Cliffords. Whether it's jazz is another
question. I am convinced it is not. Perhaps I am going back to the
"mouldy figs" vx. "modernists," but when I came to jazz i had not heard
about it.

I don't mind strong opinions, but I certainly mind being told of the
"pleasure" of which I deprive myself. I have had that dubious "pleasure."

I remember days when musicologists wrote that the boogie woogie masters
played better on beat-up pianos than of concert grands/

Where I grew up, and in Israel, rock and roll was considered jazz, just
like any western rhythmif music. I played my new acquisition - Basie's
"Blue and Sentimental" to a friend who said "let's hear some jazz," and he
complained "I was hoping to hear some rock and roll and he plays
senitmental for me!"
bluegrass, or classical musicians. I also haven’t seen them called pop

I haven't the foggiest. As far as I can tell, jazz musician he is not.

Non-music? I have never said that of Brown, although I did of some other
highly held players.
