Hi Andrew,
I agree (have a copies somewhere on vinyl somewhere (on “Money jungle” I think).
I was thinking of mayhem that ensued when Mingus joined the DE Orch years earlier  - the story’s in one of the Ellington bios & probably in “Beneath the underdog” (Mingus’ POV)

Ellington, Mingus and Max Roach produced a fascinating CD with at least two masterpieces among the tracks “Fleurette Africaine” and “Wig Wise”.
