Bob, I am obsessed with Wynton M. I have gone back over my collection and feel he is the equal of any and superior to 99.8%. What's your opinion?

Sorry, guys, I didn?t erase the CC on my private to Charlie. Hope everybody?s having a good afternoon. We?re having rain, rain, and a little more rain in northeast Florida. Some of you, I know, could use it.

Paul, forgive me, but I'm confused by your message. I don't have a DVD of the Bix stuff. I accessed the Bix Dcumentary via the original posting from Ulf Jagfors (Ulf Jagfors <ulf.jagfors at telia.com>), then later on my own via YouTube (the link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K98UsFxW6rM&feature=youtu.be). It's very visual, but the core of the story is the narrations by different interviewees, and there are many snippets of Bix recordings also. Since it was produced around 1982, many of Bix's contemporaries were interviewed. The audio is a real gem in itself.

I see from the Jazz on the Tube mailings some of us receive that Chico Hamilton's career is still going on.

Reminds me of the two versions of "why am I still here?" growled by Wild Bill Davison.

The first, on film, after a slug from a bottle of whisky, was an expression of amazement that he had survived swallowing the potations concocted privately during prohibition.

The second was I think in a radio interview, referring to the very classy jamming company already at the time up where the hooch still hadn't managed to take him.?
He had planned a modus vivendi, he said, in the event of lasting much much longer. He was going to learn banjolele, grow his hair long and tour as the oldest singing cowboy.?

A true philosopher, Wild William!

I checked out this progam via reviews etc., but have been a little dismayed
to read that the latest version - 4.1.4.16 - is 'loaded' with mal & crap
ware. Previous versions - perhaps this is what Sep uses - attracted a lot of
5 stars and worked fine. So, as 'tis said ..... "buyer beware" !!

Download problems
I have Windows 8.1. When I last year was checking Apps for Youtube
downloading I found a number of them. I finally chose "Youtube Fast
Downloader" and it works perfectly so far, no ads or any other fuzz. You
just past the URL, and chose what you want to download, the full video or
just the sound. Then chose preferred library and just click the Download
button. It download the video to the library in standard MP4 format. From
there you can convert it to DVD, MOV format with a large number of free
conversion programs. And it?s fast if you have a fast Net connection.

I also learnt from one Facebook lists that this particular video for some
unknown reason can only be downloaded on main computers (Windows is OK but
Mac?). I have tried my Samsung Note Android smartphone but it does not allow
any download. The same seems to be valid according to reports also for Ipads
(and iPhones?). Why there is this restriction I have not a clue. I have
never seen that before.

What I miss is subtitles for the name of the people that is interviewed. It
is sometimes hard to hear the names on this thirty year old recording. But
in spite of that it is a valuable film to document the life of a great
musician.

You will also find a large bunch of other Bix documentary programs and
recordings on Youtube.

Have fun from the first chilly 55F and rainy autumn day I Stockholm. Perhaps
we will play Autumn Leaves at tomorrow's weekly jam on Rest. Louis here in
down town Stockholm.

Ulf

I'm using "converter" version 4.1.4.3 and "downloader" version 3.7.0.17
without any problems. Of course, I'm also using the necessary firewall,
etc. precautions, and e.g. adblock plus in my firefox browser. And it's
not "buyer beware" but "free user beware".
