there was not traditional jazz in Spain.
Hi, Marek. I'm not sure I ever said there were no other trad bands, but
there certainly are few. These guys are based in Granada, a Southern city
in Spain. Theire concert list exposes the fact that they have dedicated
themselves practically entirely to concerts throughout the U.K., so I'm not
surprised I've never heard them.
There are now several young bands springing up both here in Madrid & in
other parts of the country. Unfortunately, due to the economic situation in
the country, the various city councils no longer support culture events as
they did in the past, so it is harder & harder to play large concerts. The
large jazz festivals in Spain tend to import international stars & ignore
local talent.
There is a Madrid Jazz Festival in November, but it only consists of a few
international stars in concert, and local bands playing in local clubs.
We're booked for 2 nites, but it is a gig we would have had anyway, and the
pay's the same!
Not a great period for emerging bands, and I suspect that is why the band
you mentioned have gone to foreign soil.
Fortunately for us, and due to our 47 year existence, we have 12 gigs this
month, so are not complaining.
Jim
