[Dixielandjazz] [TPIN] Trumpets, Cornets, Bugles, and Organology

Jim, I think I got the same impression as you did, that we ‘re being told we don’t know anything we’re talking about! What a shame that is that I’ve poured out 40+ years of trumpet playing and don’t know what I’m doing. 

Do bore size, mouthpiece size, bell size, bell annealing, different metal gauges, different types of metals, and on and on and on make a difference? Certainly they do. Most of the time I play my Adams trumpet with the mentioned .470 bore and a 5 1/2-inch bell and indeed it does make a difference! Today, I played my Conn 22B, 1940 trumpet. I had to make adjustments. Now, can I sound like me on either horn? Yes I can, but there are differences. And there certainly are some sound differences between the horns no matter what I do! 

Oh, well, I guess I’ll troop along in my ignorance! :-) :-) :-)
