Last Friday, several friends and I, with my 17 years old grandaughter (my
eldest) went to hear the Isradixie band. That band is always full of
surprises and its repertoire is constatntly expanding. Last Friday the
band played a great version of "The Mooch," a new song in its repertoire,
played for the fist time in public. True, the music is arranged (as one
would expect of an octet), but there are wonderful improvised solos, and
the leader Avram Felder is such a wonderful arranger! Avram Felder
(trumpet, flugelhorn), Jacques Sany (soprano sax) and Mehrton Cahm are good
players, well above average) and soloists. The latter two are
octogenerians. In Paul Moore the band has an interesting singer and
entertainer, which certainly expands its appeal beyond the jazz coterie.
The large club was full to capacity, with mostly Russian speaking public.
The organizer of the evening, Leena, must be congratulated for her efforts
- she is a great mover and her events are always well attended, even when
they are last-minute (which does not happen very often).
We're lucky to have such a band in Israel!
Cheers
