Scott
I like your approach. It is what I wanted that most of all information list
should look like. It is close to what some of the Yahoo lists looks like, IE
Banjo Hangout. However the major problem is of course that there are no real
economic "Gecco" incitement to run the services especially if they run large
and need a lot of server space and back up facilities. I free list must
depend on commercials to stay alive. And then, after a while and another
scam stock introduction we are back as a sibling to FB, sorry to say.
Another drawback is of course by using a quite anonymous service it will be
hard for newcomers to find it. One advantage with FB today is you constantly
get proposals for similar list you subscribe too, which of course make it
easier to find new interesting list to attend.

I withhold that FB is a mess to handle, but they are in god partnership with
most of the SW data industry that always had put low priority to make user
friendly products. Microsoft have for decades lead that trend. Apple is far
much better and have therefore gain fair market progress for that.

Concerning FB I am now constantly receiving messages that IE, Ulf like IKEA.
I don’t. I have never visited there FB page. And I don´t like IKEA more
than for instance Target.
Maybe you who said that it is just a question to set up what you want to
read can tell me how I get read of that kind of spam. Before you could click
up in the right corner to delete the message. Not so anymore what I can
find. And I fear that it will be more of those kind of forced information on
us in future. Gecco rules.

There are a number of those shortcomings and annoying factors that I
understand upset people and get them more and more negative toward the use
of FB. Again it is a pity as, if you see FB as a worldwide forum, it is
unbeatable, just now.

I am in the progress of setting up a FB group for just local use, Trad Jazz
Stockholm. It will be just in Swedish and is an information channel for
local events here in Stockholm and Sweden. Should be interesting to see how
it will work. The trad (OKOM) jazz scene her in Stockholm are extremely
active with something like 10-15 bands constantly playing around on
different locations every week. One major waterhole is our every Monday open
tradjazz jam (on Rest. Louis) which is where I mostly play. About 20-25
musicians always crop up and we play three tunes per random set of people.
If there are no more banjo players I play the whole evening, which has
happened from time to time. Very funny and educational. Unfortunately the
audience are mostly grey panthers. The younger generations have nick name
our music Prostate jazz (sic) and seldom crop up
.
My FB page. See my instrument collection with emphasis toward the history of
the banjo from Africa until today.

Ulf, more snow now. Grr. Snow blower here I come

Why not just try it at least. What are you afraid of - that you might like
it?
