Buddy DeFranco was a participant and major financial sponsor of jazz
professor and trombonist Lance Boyd's annual spring jazz festivals, a major
part of the jazz curriculum at the University of Montana. Buddy warmer
months in Whitefish, Mont. He was greatly loved by all at the university,
not just for his financial support but more for his enthusiastic
encouragement of young musicians. And what a thrill it was for Lance's
students to play with Buddy year after year. We'll miss him.
