Folks--
It's funny (but not ha-ha) how one thing leads to another on the web. Just now i saw a Facebook item from Riverwalk Jazz of a tune called "Strut Miss Lizzie" by Eddie Condon and his band, with Brad Gowins playing his valve trombone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYU441ZsRV8&feature=youtu.be). Since i like Gowins' playing but rarely find any instances of it on the internet, i clicked on it and played it in YouTube.
But that got me to wondering if there were any other videos or recordings of Gowins on the web, so i did a search on it and found the following recording (made in 2006), which i absolutely must have and which i just ordered from Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Battle-Trombones-Kid-Ory/dp/B0008E4J96)
It's called "Battle of Trombones" and is a 4-CD set of 79 songs by jazz trombonists, for $38.99. You can go look at the list of tracks, but it's got Kid Ory, Miff Mole, J. C. Higginbotham, Jack Teagarden, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, George Brunies, Dickie Wells, BRAD GOWINS, Tyree Glenn, Vic Dickinson, Lou McGarity, Benny Morton, Lawrence Brown, Trummy Young, Bill Harris, Kay Winding, Frank Rosolino, Bob Brookmeyer, J. J. Johnson, Curtis Fuller, and others.
Of course i already have a lot of these tracks on separate other recordings, but i couldn't pass this up, especially since also on the recording are other great players on other instruments.

    Dan
